Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election: 20 out of 26 segments record lower turnout than 2014

In the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir's assembly elections, 20 out of 26 assembly segments saw a decline in voter turnout compared to 2014. Budgam and Chrar-e-Sharief recorded the largest drops, with turnout decreasing by 15% to 66.32% and 82.44% respectively.

The overall turnout in the six districts that voted on Wednesday was 56.05%, down from over 60% in 2014. This decline occurred despite the addition of a new assembly segment after the delimitation exercise in 2022, raising the number of segments from 25 to 26.

Decline across most districts

While the five segments in Srinagar district had a higher voter turnout than in 2014, the rest of the districts saw a decline. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi segment in Reasi had the highest turnout this year at 79.95%, although slightly lower than the 82.68% it recorded in 2014.

Meanwhile, Habbakadal in Srinagar saw the lowest turnout at 18.39%, a drop from 21.31% a decade ago. Despite these decreases, most constituencies still managed to exceed 50% voter turnout.
